The first mural explores natural forms across scales—from microscopic bacteria and phytoplankton to ferns and insect wings—whose beauty is revealed when magnified to monumental size. Mural two highlights medicinal compounds that are derived from native Pacific Northwest plants.
The surfaces these murals were applied to presented different constraints. Mural one was painted onto a perforated grate covering a parking garage. Small details would be lost because of the grid of perforation on the mural surface, so the artwork is composed of flat, bold shapes. Mural two was applied to large panels on printed vinyl sheets which allowed it to display more detail.
