ROLE

The first mural explores natural forms across scales—from microscopic bacteria and phytoplankton to ferns, insect wings, and slime mold—whose beauty was revealed when magnified to monumental size. Mural two highlights medicinal compounds that are derived from native Pacific Northwest plants.

The materials these murals were applied to presented different material constraints. Mural one was painted onto a perforated grate covering a parking garage. Small details would be lost because of the grid of perforation on the mural surface, so the artwork is composed of flat, bold shapes.
